MUSIC IS LIFE!
Music encompasses all elements of
education and makes you smarter
Music is the foundation of all learning
Music is scientific. It is precise and specific. A conductor's
score is a balanced chart that indicates frequency, intensity,
volume, melody, and harmony, all at once and with the most
exact control of time.
Music is mathematical. It is rhythmically based on the
subdivisions of time into fractions that must be calculated,
interpreted, and applied instantaneously.
Music is foreign language. Most terms are in Italian,
German, or French. Musical notation is a highly developed
form of shorthand based on symbols that represent ideas.
The semantics of music is the most complete and universal
language known.
Music is history. It reflects the environment and various
times of its creation, including cultural and social values.
Music is physical education. It maximizes coordination of
fingers, hands, arms, lips, cheeks, and facial muscles. It also
develops extraordinary control of the diaphragm, which in
turn strengthens the back, stomach, and chest muscles.
Music is philosophy. It requires research and helps to
develop insight and perspective.
Music is art. It allows you to take a multitude of techniques
and apply them to create emotion and encourages your
own, personal expression.
Music is the human experience. Music pieces are as
multi-faceted and varied as life itself. Music inspires
thought, reflection and emotion-- much like human relations
do. Rhythm and tone simulate moods-- such as joy, sorrow
or passion. Music relates the stories of human experience.
Get more out of life
by putting music into it.

Music Beats Computers!
A research team exploring the link between music and intelligence
reports that music training -- specifically piano instruction --
is far superior to computer instruction in dramatically enhancing
children's abstract reasoning skills necessary for learning math and
science. Children who received piano/keyboard training
performed 34% higher on tests measuring spatial-temporal ability
than the others. Music uniquely enhances higher brain functions
required for mathematics, chess, science and engineering.
Second-grade students were given four months of piano keyboard
training, as well as time using newly designed math software.
The group scored over 27% higher on proportional math and
fractions tests than children who used only the math software.
Music Increases Brain Power!
Researchers at the University of Munster in Germany,
reported their discovery that music lessons in childhood actually
enlarge the brain. An area used to analyze the pitch of a musical
note is enlarged 25% in musicians, compared to people who have
never played an instrument. The findings suggest the area is enlarged
through practice and experience. The earlier the musicians were when
they started musical training, the bigger this area of the brain
appears to be.
A study of 7,500 university students revealed that music
majors scored the highest reading scores among all majors
including English, biology, chemistry and math.
So, What Do Musicians Have To Look Forward To?
Students who study music scored higher on both the verbal
and math portions of the SAT than non-music students.
The very best engineers and technical designers in the
Silicon Valley industry are, nearly without exception, practicing
musicians.
In a study of medical school applicants, 66 per cent of music
majors who applied to medical school were admitted, the highest percentage
of any group (44 per cent of biochemistry majors were admitted).
AT&T and DuPont have cut training time in half by using
creative music programs.
